Let’s Talk
Wednesday, March 7th, 2012Let’s Talk! An open forum discussing the important things that affect our lives
Sunday, February 19th, 2012Many of us look out at the world, even the communities we live in, and wonder what has gone wrong. We are a fairly prosperous and well-educated society, yet we suffer from anxiety, depression and a sense of hopelessness. One only has to look at statistics to see some of the realities. Suicide is on the rise, especially in young people. We seem to have lost our coordinates and aren’t sure any longer about concepts of right and wrong or truth and falsehood. We struggle to raise our children in a world that seems to be growing more and more fatalistic. We fear this is our fate, that this is our destiny.
What’s changed? What has gotten us to this point? Let’s Talk is offered as an open forum to discuss some of the philosophical underpinnings of our current condition. Let’s talk about who we are and how we got here. Let’s talk about right and wrong and truth and falsehood. Let’s talk about ourselves as individuals and discover whether we have any inherent worth or value. Let’s talk about good and evil, life and death, purpose and meaning, and more of the stuff that makes us tick, as individuals and societies.
It is our goal to offer one of these Let’s Talk opportunities once a month. Our first get together is going to be on March 10th from 10am to noon in the Commons at Oxford Middle School. Here are the details:
