“In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed.  In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.”  (Exodus 15:13 NIV84)

I just want to begin this devotion with what I hope is a powerful statement given the state of the world in which we live.  If there is anything “unfailing” in life, we ought to pay close attention to it!  Why?  Because everything fails!  We live in a broken world in which everything eventually falls short.  Roofs leak, cars break down, health deteriorates, relationships sour. Even love fails.  But listen carefully–God’s love is unfailing!  That’s right!  God’s love will never fall short.  It will always do all that it needs to do.  God’s unfailing love for us is what moved Him to send His own Son into the world to bear our brokenness.  The Apostle Paul says in Rom. 5:8, that “God demonstrated His great love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”   If it were not for God’s unfailing love, we would have nothing that is certain and true.

It is the very fact that, at the core of God’s being and essence He is love. That makes His love for us unfailing.  God is God.  He is unchanging.  He can no more fail in love than He can deny who He is.  We can be as certain about our redemption and salvation as we are of God’s very existence because they are rooted in His character (love).  In this song of Moses, we see Moses reflecting back on all that the Lord did for Israel in redeeming them from their lives of slavery in Egypt.  He knows that Israel’s standing free on the other side of the Red Sea  had nothing to do with him or the Israelites but had everything to do with the unfailing love of their God.  Well, today we stand on the other side of the empty tomb and can be assured that we are free, not because of anything in us, but because of God’s unfailing love for us.

Peace!
