Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh. (Exodus 7:7 NIV84)

No wonder Moses thought someone else should do the job he was called to do. He and Aaron were in their 80’s when they were called to deliver the Israelites from Egypt. Their eyes of sight saw the illogical nature of their calling. They must have asked themselves, why not 40 years ago? Moses must have been saying within himself, “Lord, you have to be kidding! Now you want me to begin this work?” In his twenties, Moses thought that he might have been called for such a mission of deliverance. He stood up and defended a fellow Israelite, but days later found himself running into the desert fearing for his life.

Moses, like all of us, needed to know that godly work was not about him and his ability but about what God could do. Zechariah says, “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord of host.” Plainly stated, it’s never about us, but always about what He can do through us. We only need to be willing to trust that God will take care of the rest. Are you afraid of something God is calling you to? Why? If you’re like me it’s because you have gotten yourself in the way and now are filled with doubts and fears. But if God is the doer and we are only the vessel He uses, He can do anything in and through us. It doesn’t matter if you’re 8 or 80. God can perform His work through you as you avail yourself to His use.

Peace!
