During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them. (Exodus 2:23-25 NIV84)
So, have you ever been in that place in your life when you couldn’t take one more bad thing to happen in your life? It’s that time when you are certain that if one more thing gets added to the load, your back and your spirit is going to break. Well, that is exactly where the Israelites are in our verses for today. The Egyptians are adding to the persecution and abuses on a daily basis. The Hebrew people are experiencing the execution of their baby boys, and their men and women are placed into abusive forced labor. They just can’t take it anymore!
So, what do you do when you just can’t take any more? You do what the Israelites did. You call on the name of the Lord. You cry to the One who sees what you are experiencing, hears your cries for help, and loves you with a compassion that moves Him into action. Listen, it is wrong to conclude that God doesn’t love you or has abandoned you just because you are going through a tough time. It is in our toughest times that God seems to miraculously do His best work. When things seem to be impossible to us, nothing is impossible with God. The story of the Exodus is proof positive that when God is moved to compassion by the cries of His people, He will move Heaven and Earth to rescue you. There is one more way He has proven that to you. When the salvation of your soul was impossible, He sent His Son into the world to make it possible. Yours and my salvation was won through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Be confident today that God sees, hears, and acts on your behalf because He loves you!
