“Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24, NASB)
“But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24, NIV)
Here again the NIV uses faithfully while the NASB uses in truth. Both state that we, as God’s children in response to all the “great things He has done” for us, should serve Him in true faithfulness with all our hearts. So, here is the key truth the Lord wants us to consider as we commit our lives in service to Him. Has the Lord done great things for you? For the Israelites, He brought them out of Egypt with 10 mighty plagues. He enabled the Israelites to cross the Red Sea on dry ground. He amazed them with His presence and His Word from Mt. Sinai. He protected them throughout their wilderness journey. He brought them victoriously into the promised land. I would say the Lord did some pretty great things on their behalf. It is based on these truthful and verifiable acts that God seeks His followers to commit to Him and thereby commit to the truth.
So what about you and me? Has God done great things for us? Reflect on your life for a moment. Has God, according to His promises, been faithful to you? Has He met you where you are and rescued you from that which enslaved you? Has He delivered you through troubled times? Has He provided for you as you lived through your own wilderness journeys? Has He amazed you with the truth and power of His Word? Has He promised with certainty that He is preparing a place for you in eternity? The answer to all those questions is a resounding yes! God has done all those amazing things for us.
Today, may we serve Him in truth and faithfulness with all our hearts, knowing that He has done exactly that for us.
