“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV84)
In our verses for today, Paul contrasts the radiant glory of the Lord that beamed from Moses’ face and the glory that beams through our lives as Christians. Catch what he is saying. Moses would hide his face when it beamed white with the remnant glory of spending time with God in the tabernacle. Why hide his face? Mainly because the glory would fade. As time would pass, the shining glory on his face would fade until it would disappear.
But not so with us! We reflect the Lord’s glory with unveiled faces. Why unveiled? Unveiled because our glory does not fade away. Wait a minute. When I look in the mirror I don’t see any beaming glory. I don’t know about you, but no one tells me that my face is glowing with radiant glory. So, how is it that we reflect the Lord’s glory with unveiled faces? We do so because the Spirit of God dwells in us. As we live out our daily lives empowered by the Spirit of God, He beams through us. He radiates through our words and actions.
But our faces are not just unveiled! Paul tells us that the Spirit of God beams through us with ever increasing glory. As the Spirit of God transforms us into the image of Christ, the glory beaming through our lives actually increases. So, we may not actually beam light, but we beam life (eternal life) through a life transformed by the Holy Spirit.
