“Righteous are you, O Lord, and your laws are right. The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy.” (Psalm 119:137–138, NIV)

The psalmist is declaring in these verses that God’s Word is right and trustworthy. This is a significant theme, so significant that Firmly Rooted conducted a number of community talks to try to stimulate discussion around the concepts of right and wrong, truth and falsehood, intrinsic value and self-worth. We live in a culture today in which huge question marks exist in the minds of those who contemplate these topics. Can anything be absolutely right or wrong? Can human value and worth be intrinsically found?

The psalmist says that there are absolutes in God’s Word that we need to know and apply to our lives because they are right and trustworthy. There are, of course, many reasons to study and meditate upon the Word of God, but what if one of those is so we can provide a civilization with some rules and guidelines for living? What if they are more than someone’s opinion? What if they are eternal truths and standards upon which all people should live?

I believe that the psalmist is telling us that we can find answers to the key questions of life in God’s Word because His Word itself is right and thereby trustworthy. Let’s dig deep into God’s Word for answers and direction to all the facets of our lives.

Peace!
