“Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. ” (Isaiah 53:10, NIV)
Once again, the Lord through the prophet Isaiah makes it clear that Jesus suffered as our guilt offering. He offered Himself up to the Father so we would not face the judgment. But the part of this verse that has me intrigued is the part that says “he will see his offspring and prolong his days.” What does this mean? Who in the world are Jesus’ offspring? Well, if you go to the first chapter of the Gospel of Matthew and look at the third section of the genealogy of Jesus, you will notice that Matthew mentions that there are 14 generations from the dispersion to Jesus. But if you count them there are only 13. Matthew purposely forces the reader to ask the question, “Then, who does Jesus beget?”
The answer to the question is you and me! Jesus’ offspring are all those who would come to believe in Him. We are the new Israel. We are the true children of Abraham. We are not all from Abraham’s bloodline, but we are all from his “faith line.” We have been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit and made to be Jesus’ descendants. We are not just outside guests; we are family!
Isaiah states at the end of this verse that the “will of the Lord will prosper in His hand.” The Holy Spirit continues to work through the Church today to accomplish the Lord’s will. As members of Jesus’ family we are called to the same ministry. We are witnesses to the power of the Gospel. We are living and breathing testimonies of what the Holy Spirit can do to a man or a woman who believes in Him. As we witness to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we allow that same Holy Spirit to work through us to touch the lives of those around us.
Today, live in the benefits provided you as an offspring of Jesus.
