“Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.” (Acts 5:42 NIV84)

The leaders of the new Christian Church had been thrown into jail a couple times, questioned and harassed, and now flogged because of their continual pronouncement of the Gospel. You would think that they might be a little more covert from then on. Who could blame them if they began to have some secret meeting outside the city or something like that? But that is not what they did. What they did was continue to go daily into “the temple courts and from house to house” proclaiming the message of Jesus Christ. Our verse for today says that “they never stopped”! Nothing deterred them from their primary mission of sharing the message of Jesus with those who did not know.

Once again, I find myself convicted by the Word of God. I too often succumb to social pressures to keep my Christianity to myself. I am not as bold and consistent as I ought to be. Sometimes I even give in to the pressure of what simply eats up my time. I find myself getting so busy with other things that I can’t find the time to do the things that really matter. We can’t quit! The Lord has left us Christians on the planet so we can spread the message of His kingdom to a world that is dying to hear it. We must offer ourselves to the Lord as His servants and vessels to be used as he sees fit. May it be said of us, that we “day after day … never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.”

Peace!

All too often I find myself talking about others…gossipping. It seems so easy to spread gossip; especially if it is “good” gossip. But I wonder, if it is so easy to talk about others, why is it so hard to talk about Jesus? I know this is a weakness and I pray that I can use my words to please Our Savior.
